Spring Cleaning the Pet Pantry
Greetings, my fellow pet parents. During a conversation I had with a woman in front of me in the checkout line recently got me doing a mental inventory of my pet pantry. Her cart was full of food, treats, bowls and toys to prepare her home to receive her new fur baby, Ruby. Our conversation led me to think about all the pet items I've acquired since moving to Missouri.
My hubby and I are finally finished with our remodel and are just now unpacking our boxes. We are finding all of Mercedes' dog stuff from Las Vegas that we no longer need, so I decided it's time for me to do a little spring cleaning of the pet pantry.
First, I'm starting with all the extra pet items—bowls, harnesses, leashes, etc.—that Mercedes and Zsa-Zsa no longer need. I’ll be donating these items to a pet rescue because it gives me joy that someone else can use what I don't need and also frees up much needed space in my pantry.
Next, I'm looking through all the food and treats for anything expired or that have ingredients that are not good for my pets. There are those ingredients that sneak in when I'm not paying attention or too mesmerized by a new treat on the market. Some pet companies know how to target my emotions to spoil my fur babies. When I get home, I realize that I didn't look at what's in the treat. I search the ingredient panel and often realize that the treat has something that’s not good for pet health. So, that shelf is getting cleaned, too.
I began looking at the ingredients in my pets' food and treats years ago when my Rottweiler, Neiko, acquired an auto-immune disease. I researched how to help him and eventually began cooking chicken for him everyday. I did the same with each of my pets until I found the brand of food that actually promotes good pet health and uses no fillers, no sugars, no chemicals, no preservatives.
I was especially delighted when I began feeding Mercedes the Sequoia Grain-Free foods. She had typical Rottie/shepherd allergies, digestive and arthritis issues. Mercedes used to eat grass and throw up every day, and she also had difficulty walking, playing and even stopped swimming due to arthritis. I was giving her medication everyday.
When I finally found a food that didn't have fillers, preservatives, sugars or chemicals, her tummy issues, itching and sneezing were gone. Her eyes don't water, even in Missouri with everything blooming! Mercedes no longer takes all those meds for arthritis and pain. Instead, she leaps up the stairs and even jumps in the pool to swim with us. I was stunned at the difference in Mercedes health and became a true believer in looking at the ingredients in foods that I feed my fur babies.
The brand I prefer to give all my pets is Forest Natural Sequoia . The company recently released a new grain-free dog food, and when I poured a bowl of their Triple Play Blend of Beef, Rabbit & Pork for Mercedes and Zsa-Zsa, it was love at first bite. And Zsa-Zsa is my picky eater and she has devoured every bowl. I have been so happy with PetClub 247, I became a brand advocate, educating others about what to look for in their pet foods.
Well, spring cleaning the pet pantry is almost done. Aside from the store-bought treats, I'm glad to see that everything is current and supports my fur babies health. Tomorrow, I'll get a time scheduled to take the extra pet items to a local shelter.
I hope my little story inspires you to do a little spring cleaning, too. Send me a note at amy@healinghhp.com to receive a list of ingredients to avoid in your pet's foods. We're the only voice our pets have to keep them healthy and allow them to stay with us longer.
Be Blessed & Stay Groovy!
